The subject matter of the magazine

The subject matter of the magazine

The journal is published by the Research Center of the Jewish Museum and Tolerance Center and is intended as a youth platform for the development of Russian-language Jewish studies.

It opens a new page in the study of Jewish history and culture, creating a space for dialogue between young researchers, students, and graduate students who seek to share their ideas, observations, and discoveries.

The history of the magazine's emergence

The idea of creating the journal was born in 2024 as a continuation of the Vectors youth conference, which included a section on Jewish and Israeli studies organized jointly by the Jewish Museum and Tolerance Center and the Moscow Higher School of Social and Economic Sciences (Shanninka).

It was then that the need for a specialized publication capable of bringing together young researchers engaged in Jewish history and culture became apparent.

This is how Newish came into being—a journal based on the idea of novelty and the development of the modern field of Jewish studies.

The history of the name's origin

The history of the name's origin

The name Newish was not chosen at random — it reflects the key ideas underlying the magazine's concept.

First, it contains a reference to the English word “new,” emphasizing the perspective of a young researcher and a contemporary approach to the study of Jewish culture and history.

Second, it sounds like “Jewish,” which directly indicates the thematic focus of the publication.

Finally, the word “wish” expresses a desire for new discoveries and achievements in the field of Jewish Studies.

Newish is a kind of manifesto: a combination of innovation and youth, Jewish studies and scientific research, ideological aspiration and academic freedom.
